iMac Hinge Broken or Loose

iMac Screen Tilting or Falling Forward, making it hard to keep the display in place?

A photographer came in last week with his 2019 27inch iMac. The hinge had completely lost
tension. The screen would flop forward every time he touched it, making editing sessions
frustrating and risky. He thought he’d have to replace the whole unit.

At first, we carefully disassembled the whole iMac. Then we replaced the worn clutch mechanism and torque springs, tightened everything. We also cleaned the internals while we
were in there and then assembled everything back together.

Result?
Now the screen of the iMac stays in the same position, with smooth movement. He said it feels
better than when it was new!
